Foster Care & Adoption 101

Gain a deep understanding of the foster care and adoption system with our Foster Care & Adoption 101 training. We cover all aspects, including legal processes, responsibilities of foster parents, and the impact of foster care and adoption on children and families. This training will provide you with a solid foundation as you embark on your journey.


Foster Care & Adoption 201

Building upon the knowledge gained in Foster Care & Adoption 101, our Foster Care & Adoption 201 training delves deeper into specific topics such as attachment and bonding, behavioral management techniques, and building resilience in children. We provide you with advanced strategies and insights to help you navigate the unique challenges and joys of fostering and adoption.

Child Development

Understanding child development is essential for foster and adoptive families. Our Child Development training equips parents with a comprehensive understanding of the physical, emotional, and cognitive growth stages of children. Trauma-Informed Care

CPR/First Aid

Texas Health Steps

Stay up-to-date on the latest healthcare guidelines and services available to foster children in Texas. Our Texas Health Steps training provides insights into accessing and utilizing the resources offered through the Texas Health Steps program, enabling you to provide comprehensive healthcare for the children you foster or adopt.


Psychotropic Medication (DFPS Online)

Our partnership with the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) allows us to provide you with access to the Psychotropic Medication online training. This training offers detailed information on the appropriate use and management of psychotropic medications for children in foster care, ensuring their well-being and safety.


Medical Consenter (DFPS Online)

As a foster parent, you may be required to act as a medical consenter for the children in your care. Through our partnership with DFPS, we offer the Medical Consenter online training, which familiarizes you with the responsibilities and procedures involved in acting as a medical consenter, ensuring the children receive the necessary medical care.

Abuse & Neglect Prevention and Reporting (DFPS Online)

Recognizing and reporting abuse or neglect is crucial for safeguarding children. Our partnership with DFPS grants you access to the Abuse & Neglect Prevention and Reporting online training, which equips you with the knowledge and understanding to identify signs of abuse or neglect and guides you through the reporting process.

Trauma-Informed Care Overview (DFPS Online)

Through our partnership with DFPS, we provide access to the Trauma-Informed Care Overview online training. This training offers a comprehensive overview of trauma-informed care, focusing on trauma's impact on children and providing strategies to support their healing and growth.

  • Transportation (Online)

    Safe transportation is vital for children in foster care. Our online Transportation training equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure the safety of children during travel, whether it's daily commutes or outings.

  • Additional Training Requirements

    In addition to our core curriculum, House of Shiloh ensures that prospective foster families meet the additional training requirements mandated by state minimum standards. These requirements aim to equip families with essential skills beyond our standard training offerings.

  • Universal Precautions Training

    To promote a safe environment, we require families to complete Universal Precautions Training. This training educates you on proper infection control techniques and precautions, minimizing the risk of spreading communicable diseases.

  • Psychotropic Medication Training

    We ensure that our families receive specialized training in psychotropic medication management. This training provides in-depth knowledge and guidelines for effectively managing psychotropic medications, ensuring the well-being of children who require such treatment.

  • Certification in First Aid and Infant/Child/Adult CPR

    To handle medical emergencies with confidence, we require families to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR for infants, children, and adults. This certification ensures that you are prepared to respond promptly and effectively in times of crisis.

  • Annual In-Service Training

    At House of Shiloh, we prioritize ongoing growth and development. Verified foster homes are required to participate in annual in-service training. The number of hours required depends on the number of foster parents and the needs of the children in the home, ranging from 20 hours per family to 30 hours per foster parent. This commitment to continuous learning ensures that our families maintain the highest standards of care for the children they serve.
